PGH TRANS DEFENSE FUND
Trans Youniting launched Pittsburgh's Trans Self Defense Fund during January of 2021.

The goal of this fund was to arm BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) TGNC (Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming) with self defense tools.

2020 was the deadliest and most violent year our community faced. We lost far too many lives.
​
Our goal was to raise 5,000 dollars. We accomplished this goal in ONE WEEK! The funds allowed T.Y. to purchase and assemble 50 Self-Defense kits and distribute them to our community.

Our work received recognition. We were interviewed by WPXI and covered in a national article on VICE. In this article our Fund put Pittsburgh 90.5 WESA (local NPR).

TRANS VISIBILITY THURSDAYS
(T.V.T)
During September and October of 2020 our organization launched a weekly protest to raise awareness about the institutional and interpersonal violence trans individuals face.
​
Trans lives are under attack. We are being murdered. We are being kicked out of our homes. We are being refused housing. We are being fired and not being hired. We are being forced into sex work. We are being denied health care. Trans children are being targeted by the government. Every system comes down on our shoulders.
​
Visibility matters and awareness about what our community faces is minimal. Through T.V.T our words were covered in the news and our message spread across social media. Trans Visibility Thursdays successfully increased the Visibility of the Trans experience here in Pittsburgh.
